M1897 Trenchgun

The M1897 Trenchgun, or Winchester Model 1897, is a shotgun used by the U.S. Army and Marines. It was invented by John Moses Browning, a famous U.S. weapons inventor. It has an external hammer and tube magazine. It was an evolution of the Winchester Model 1893 designed from the same maker. It has a 12-gauge caliber and Pump-action. It has a 5-round tubular magazine, and a 22 yard range.

History[]

It became immediatly popular after it was invented, but when the U.S. joined in WWI, it had military demands because it could become effective in brutal trench warfare. A bayonet lug was added to fit an M1917 Bayonet. It was very succesful in WWI, but the Germans demanded they should stop using shotguns. The demand was ignored. It was also used during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
